Tollways ready for return of motorists

MANILA, Philippines – Diversified conglomerate San Miguel Corp. (SMC) and infrastructure giant Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) are ready for the anticipated surge in vehicles on toll roads as motorists troop back to Metro Manila starting today.

SMC’s Private Infra Development Corp. (PIDC) said it expects heavy traffic at the opened portion of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX).

The toll road operator said TPLEX’s Traffic Management Group would deploy more ambulant tellers and security personnel to help manage traffic flow and provide assistance to motorists.

The MPIC said it also expects heavy traffic along the Subic-Clark-Tarlac expressway and the North Luzon Expressway on Jan. 3 and 4.

The toll operator said there would be advance toll collection at the San Miguel, PARCLO and Concepcion toll plazas for vehicles bound for Mabalacat starting today.

It said it opened more lanes at the Bocaue interchange and Dau toll plaza and fielded more ambulant tellers. 

MPIC’s Manila North Tollways Corp. sees a 30-percent increase in the volume of vehicles, or more than 52,000 per day between Dec. 31 and Jan. 4, at the southbound lane of the Bocaue toll plaza.
