Another victim dies from N. Cotabato blast
NORTH COTABATO, Philippines - One of the 35 people injured in Wednesday’s market bombing in Mlang town succumbed while undergoing medication, local officials said Thursday.
The 41-year-old Zenaida Suelo died at the Cotabato Provincial Hospital in the provincial capital, Kidapawan City. She is the second fatality in the bombing incident.
A villager named Christine Salo, 28, died on the spot from shrapnel wounds sustained in the explosion.
Mlang Mayor Joselito Piñol, presiding chair of the municipal peace and order council, said investigators are still trying to determine who could have perpetrated the bombing.
The attack was the second in Mlang in just four weeks.
Still unidentified bombers set off a home-made bomb near a billiard hall in the town center last November 23, killing two bystanders and wounding 22 others.
Piñol said all of the victims of Wednesday’s bombing are now confined in different hospitals.
Responding Army and police bomb experts said the bomb used in the latest attack in Mlang was packed with nails and fragments of cast iron with sharp, jagged edges.
