Boy swallows 'torotot' reed
NORTH COTABATO, Philippines - Doctors have still been trying to remove from a 6-year-old child’s throat a detachable toy trumpet reed swallowed on the eve of Christmas during a family celebration.
The reed of toy trumpets is made of recyclable plastics that are attached to a tubular air chamber using glue.
In a statement, the local government of Pikit said the child swallowed the whistle contraption that creates a sound when blown.
The child is now confined at a hospital in Kidapawan City, the Pikit LGU said.
The LGU is now helping in the medication of the child, who belongs to a peasant family in Barangay Ladtingan in west of the municipality.
The provincial health office has urged the public to take precaution in using toy trumpets to greet the New Year’s Day to prevent a repeat of the incident
