2 dead, 5 hurt in motorbike mishaps

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines - Two people were killed and five others were critically injured in two separate accidents involving motorcycles in Isabela and Cagayan on Christmas Day.

Ruben Ortiz, 32, died while his wife Jamaica Ortiz, 23, was among those brought to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center when the motorcycle they were riding hit two other motorcycles in Barangay Cubag.

Jacinto Gacias, 60; Calixtro Reyes, and brothers Arnulfo and Jerome Juan – who were on the two other motorcycles – were injured and brought to a hospital, according to Chief Inspector Nelson Vallejo, Cabagan police chief.

In Pamplona, Cagayan, security guard Alfredo de la Cruz, 35, died when his motorcycle hit a tricycle, which also collided with a speeding van driven by Manuelito Rodas in Barangay Curva.
