SAN LEONARDO, Nueva Ecija, Philippines – A police sergeant and his wife lost P15,000 to motorcycle-riding men who robbed them at gunpoint here Sunday night.

Senior Police Officer 1 Samuel Cagungon of the Regional Public Safety Battalion and his wife Mirasol were about to enter their apartment in Barangay Diversion when one of the men approached them at around 9:30 p.m.

Senior Superintendent Crizaldo Nieves, provincial police director, said the man poked a gun at the couple and grabbed Mirasol’s bag containing the money and other personal belongings. The man fled on a motorcycle driven by a companion.

Cagungon pulled out his service firearm and shot at the robbers, who fled toward Sta. Rita town.

The robbers lost their balance and fell off the motorcycle. They ran toward a dimly lit area.

Cagungon went after the robbers but failed to catch them. Investigators recovered the motorcycle at the crime scene.
