American fugitive recaptured

The Philippine Star

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – For using his mobile phone, an American who bolted a facility of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) here was recaptured in Iligan City.

Douglas Brent Jackson, who is facing a swindling case, was recaptured at a pension house in Barangay Tibangan last Saturday, six days after he escaped from the BI cell.

BI-Southern Mindanao director Eddie Delima said Jackson was caught after he called someone on his mobile phone.

The suspect was reportedly set for deportation last Aug. 29 due to a separate theft case in the United States.

But the order was not implemented because the suspect has a pending criminal case in Davao.

Investigators have yet to determine how the American escaped from his cell. Jackson was said to have sawed off the iron grills of the window of his cell.

BI spokesperson Elaine Tan said Jackson used the alias Ted Miller when he checked in at the pension house.
