Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Two separate fires broke out Wednesday in Quezon City, rendering around 165 families homeless.

Reports said that the first fire razed a residential area in Barangay Doña Imelda, destroying around 50 houses.

The blaze, which started at the third floor of the residence of Medardo Dalib, quickly spread to adjacent houses, most of which were made up light materials, reports added.

Arson investigators placed the cost of damage at P500,000.

The second fire hit five apartment units in Barangay Socorro, Cubao, Quezon, around 10 a.m.

Firefighters suspected that the blaze started at Unit 9 on the second floor of the establishment due to electrical overload.

The fire destroyed around P1.5 million worth of property.
