MANILA, Philippines - Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested a 48-year-old man after he received a package containing P2 million worth of suspected shabu transported via courier service in Butuan City.
PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac Jr. said that elements of the PDEA Regional Office 13 (PDEA RO13) Special Enforcement Team intercepted the package in a local courier branch in Gaisano Mall at Barangay Imadejas, Butuan City around 6 p.m. last December 12.
Operatives nabbed the intended receiver of the package, Rosello Ampong of Barangay Imadejas.
The illegal drugs, which weighed approximately 250 grams, were placed in 50 sachets hidden inside the soles of lady sandals. The estimated street value of the seized illegal drugs is P2 million.
Prior to the operation, authorities got a report from a confidential informant who said that a package containing the shabu is due for delivery using a courier service from San Pedro City in Laguna province.
The PDEA RO13 is now verifying the identity and information of the consignee indicated in the parcel.
A case for violation of Section 5 (Delivery of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II, of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed in court against Ampong.
