NBI discovers mini theater in Bilibid compound

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) — Authorities on Monday discovered a room with an entertainment set and amenities while conducting a drug raid inside the New Bilibid Prison's compound in Muntinlupa City.

About 100 agents of the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police accompanied by Justice Secretary Leila de Lima raided the detention facility, which is suspected of being used in the illegal drugs operation led by 19 Chinese inmates.

The room of Peter Co, one of the suspected drug lords, in the prison compound's Building 2 also has closed-circuit television cameras, wireless internet, flat screen TV, shower room and carpeted areas, as seen in television reports.

Seized and discovered from cells of other suspected gang leaders were an aquarium, a music bar, storage for expensive bottles of liquor, watches from luxury brands, pornographic materials, cash, air conditioning unit and a bath tub equipped with heater and small television.

The 19 inmates were transferred from the maximum security compound to an undisclosed Department of Justice facility due to their alleged involvement in drug activities.

De Lima said the suspects are behind a "significant" portion of the country's narcotic trade.
