Ex-village chief gunned down

Ariel Paolo Tejada - The Philippine Star

VINTAR, Ilocos Norte, Philippines – A former barangay chairman was shot dead here yesterday morning.

Antonio Rivera, 60, of Barangay Esperanza, was gathering feed for his cattle when he was shot some 200 meters away from his home. He died at the scene due to several gunshot wounds, police said.

Rivera’s widow, Aizza, said her husband’s plan to return to politics in 2016 might be the motive for the killing.

Aizza said Rivera served as village chief from 2002 to 2007.
