ILOILO CITY, Philippines – The city police has reported a 25 percent reduction in the crime rate from January to November this year.
The city police attributed the drop to the enforcement of several anti-crime initiatives.
City police chief Senior Superintendent Ruperto Floro said the motorized anti-street crime unit boosted their police integrated patrol system.
Floro said local police officers have tightened their watch on key economic points and vital installations. He said they also meet regularly with members of the community.
“Police operations will be in vain without the cooperation of the community,” he said.
Records showed that the city police posted 12,743 crimes this year compared to 16,996 incidents in 2013.
Of the 12,743 cases, 8,077 were non-index crimes or violations of special laws or local ordinances.
Index crimes, or crimes committed against persons and property, accounted for 4,666 incidents.
The city police said the most prevalent index crime is theft with 2,570 followed by physical injury with 1,796.
Other index crimes recorded are robbery, 164; car theft, 41; rape, 34; murder, 31; homicide, 25, and cattle rustling, five.
Floro said the number of robbery incidents this year decreased by 58.69 percent compared to last year’s 397 incidents.
Theft and physical injury cases decreased by 27.07 and 25.9 percent, respectively.
The city police reported a higher crime clearance efficiency (CCE) and crime solution efficiency (CSE) at 41.4 and 39.65 percent, respectively.
The number improved from 7.13 percent CCE and 5.84 percent CSE in 2013.
Floro cited the community’s participation as a factor in the improved CCE and CSE.
“Because they promptly report crime incidents, police response had also been prompt,” he said.
