Suspect in congressman's ambush arrested

MANILA, Philippines - One of the suspects in the ambush of Iligan City Rep. Vicente "Varf" Belmonte was arrested Saturday morning in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental.

Police said the arrested suspect was a certain Dominador Tumala, 52, of Sergio Osmena, Zamboanga del Norte.

Belmonte's convoy had just left the Laguidingan airport when armed men on board three vehicles fired at them at around 2 p.m. On Thursday.

Belmonte survived while three of his bodyguards were killed in the ambush.
