The Philippine Star

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – Three farmers allegedly died from suffocation when they were trapped in a 20-foot-deep well in Barangay Maugat, Nasugbu, Batangas on Thursday, police said yesterday.

The bodies of Roman Dastas, 48; Junmar Dastas, 23; and Jayvee Abreu, 21 – all residents of Sitio Anahaw 2 in Barangay Maugat – were recovered at around 3 p.m., according to Nasugbu police chief Superintendent Marlowe Torina.

Torina said the victims were trapped when the rope that was lowered to rescue them broke.

He said the farmers started digging the deep well on Nov. 28. – Ed Amoroso, Arnell Ozaeta
