Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - In anticipation of possible looting after supertyphoon Ruby, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed policemen in different areas in Tacloban City.

In a radio interview, PNP region 8 director, Chief Superintendent Henry Losanes said they want to prevent any looting in business and commercial establishments that happened during the aftermath of supertyphoon Yolanda last year.

He said three groups have been organized by the Regional Office to handle search and rescue operations, securing vital government installations and facilities such as Department of Social Welfare and Development hubs and evacuation centers, and road patrol.

He said that there are more than 6,000 policemen ready to be deployed to secure the various areas.

Meanwhile, shopping malls in Tacloban City have closed early to dissuade looting of the establishments. Policemen have surrounded these business hubs.
