Man hacks neighbor dead over P150 debt

Jennifer P. Rendon - The Philippine Star

ILOILO CITY, Philippines – A man was hacked dead by his neighbor whom he allegedly owed P150 in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo Tuesday night.

Nicolas Paciente, 52, was preparing to sleep when Ramil Belalo, who was allegedly armed with a bolo, barged in.

The suspect reportedly attacked the victim, hitting him in the leg, face and arm.

Paciente was initially taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. He was transferred to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Town police chief Inspector Sullen Domingo said Belalo earlier asked Paciente to pay him, but the victim begged off.

Domingo said the suspect was seen drinking with some friends before he attacked Paciente. Belalo fled after the incident.
