MANILA, Philippines - A motorcyclist was killed immediately after he fell off his bike and then run-over by a bus in Parañaque City early Monday.
A report reaching the Southern Police District identified the victim as Rodel Darunday, 39, a laborer of Aragon Compound, San Nicolas, Cavite City.
Parañaque police has taken custody of the bus driver, identified as Alberto Abatayo, 44, of Barangay Labric, Gumaca, Quezon and a resident of Concorde Village in Barangay Tambo.
Initial investigation showed that Darunday was aboard his Motorstar bike (1530-PX) and was cruising alongside a Daewoo bus driven by Abatayo (TYW-816) on the westbound lane of MIA road at about 6:45 a.m. when he suddenly tried to overtake the bus at Roxas Boulevard.
Police said Darunday slipped on the road’s edge while overtaking the bus, causing him to lose control of the bike.
Police said Durunday’s bike then hit the bus at its mid-portion, throwing him to the bus’s right front wheel. Police said Durunday died on the spot after being rolled-over by the bus.
Durunday’s body was taken to the Royalty Funeral Parlor while investigators are still probing the incident.
