4 dead in Basilan mishap

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Four persons, including a minor, died while three others were injured when a truck rolled over in Maluso town, Basilan yesterday.

The fatalities were identified as Angelino Alejandro, Eddie Misamis, 14-year-old Marisa Jakaria and Adding Duterte. 

The injured victims – truck driver Mohammad Adil Badidi, Annori Tayabas,and a certain Awan – were taken to a hospital in Isabela City for treatment.

Police said the truck (RHD-867), driven by Badidi, was traveling down the road in Barangay Abong-Abong when one of its tires blew at around 9 a.m. 

Investigators said the truck rolled over, pinning some of its passengers to death.

Boy killed in Cavite accident

Meanwhile, in Cavite, a two-year-old boy died while seven of his relatives were injured when their tricycle was hit by an armored van and collided with a mini-bus in Kawit Sunday, authorities said yesterday.

Jasper Balitostos was declared dead on arrival at the Crisostomo General Hospital, according to Police Officer 2 Gabriel Gonzales, Kawit traffic investigator.

Taken to the same hospital for treatment were Dominador Jamio Guana, 79; June Balitostos, 32, Jezalyn Francisco, 27; tricycle driver Roger Postre, 27; Sheena Balitostos, 23; Jerlyn Postre, 7, and John Aliba, 4.

Gonzales said the Balitostos and Postre families were on their way to Kawit when their tricycle figured in an accident along the Covelandia road at around 11:30 a.m.

 Investigators said the armored van (ZHM-274) driven by Dindo Mandapitan was running at top speed when it bumped the tricycle, which slammed into a mini bus (DVA-640) driven by Emanuel Ravelo.
