Slain mayor’s kin on arrest of suspect: No justice yet
SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan, Philippines – The mayor of this town, who is a son of slain former mayor Julian Resuello, yesterday said their family has yet to attain justice despite the arrest of another suspect in Jalajala, Rizal Tuesday night.
Mayor Julier Resuello said while they are happy with the arrest of Salvador Boquiren, justice would only be attained if the mastermind is caught and put behind bars.
Resuello said Boquiren’s arrest gives his family fresh hope that his father would be given justice.
The older Resuello was shot dead on April 28, 2007 as he was attending a town fiesta. His security aide, Eulogio Martinez, was also killed in the incident that left another aide, Senior Police Officer 1 Jaime Almoite; Jonathan dela Cruz; Arwin Fermin and Angelito Soriano wounded.
Soriano, who was tagged as one of the gunmen, was earlier arrested by the police.
A murder case filed against the suspects, one of them a known political enemy of the Resuellos, was dismissed by the court.
Resuello said they are hoping that with new evidence and the arrest of Boquiren, the court would grant their motion to reopen the case.
