Sulu election officer shot dead

COTABATO CITY, Philippines –An election officer was shot dead in downtown Jolo on Tuesday, police said yesterday. 

Reports reaching the office of Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Gov. Mujiv Hataman said Mergani Wahid, 42, election officer of Tapul town, suffered gunshot wounds in different parts of the body.

Wahid was driving a motorcycle on his way home to Kasulutan Village in Jolo when unidentified gunmen blocked his path and opened fire with a .45 caliber pistol.

 Alsaid Idzmar, a bystander, was hit with a stray bullet in the leg.

The suspect escaped.  

Wahid was pronounced dead on arrival at the Sulu Provincial Hospital.
