Cops nab suspect in San Carlos City mayor's killing

MANILA, Philippines - Police operatives nabbed on Tuesday night the suspect in the killing of San Carlos City mayor Julian Resuello of Pangasinan province and his bodyguard seven years ago.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group chief Director Benjamin Magalong said operatives arrested Salvador Boquiren in Barangay Lubo in Jala-jala town, Rizal province.

Authorities served the arrest warrant against Boquiren, who yielded a cal.38 revolver, for allegedly raping an 18-year-old housemaid in a resort in Las Pinas City. 

An informant said that Boquiren is also involved in the killing of Resuello and his close-in security Jojo Martinez sometime April 2007 during a celebration in San Carlos City.

The informant, who was also a close-in security of Resuello, identified Boquiren after the detectives showed him a photo of the suspect.

Magalong said there are at least seven more assailants involved during the shooting of Resuello.

Resuello's family sees politics as the motive behind the killing.
