MANILA, Philippines - One was killed while another was injured after a 10-wheeler truck collided with a company van in La Union, before dawn Wednesday.

Killed was Eulogio Antonio Jr., 54, distribution manager of the Angeles Electric Corporation in Angeles, Pampanga while Alvin Garcia, an engineer, was wounded during the accident, a radio report said.

Initial reports said that the van, driven by Rizaldo Sampaga, was speeding along the northbound lane of the national highway in Barangay San Eugenio, Aringay, La Union around 2:30 a.m. when it overtook a bus.

The van suddenly slammed into the oncoming 10-wheeler truck, driven by Ronnie Jose Gacayan, the report said.

The victims were rushed to the Agoo District Hospital but doctors failed to revive Antonio, the report added.

Authorities are still looking into the possible liabilities of the drivers of the two vehicles.
