CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – Two men who broke into a subdivision in this city were killed in a shootout with security guards shortly after midnight yesterday.

The incident also resulted in the death of one of the guards, identified as Alexander Borbos. Another guard, Jerand Caba-nieros, was wounded in the incident.

Police identified the two suspected robbers as Ben Palconete, 24, and his cousin Adelmar Palconete, both of Barangay Carmen.

Reports said the guards were patrolling Xavier Estates when they saw the suspects entering a house.

The suspects – reportedly armed with two handguns and an improvised KG9 machine pistol – shot it out with the guards, killing Borbos on the spot.

One of the suspects was killed at the scene while the other managed to escape to the nearby Xavierville Subdivision, where he was gunned down by the pursuing guards.

Carmen police station chief Senior Inspector Jophet Paglinawan said Borbos suffered four gunshot wounds in the body.
