Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Typhoon Paeng exited the Philippine area of responsibility yesterday but the state weather bureau continued to warn residents in some parts of Luzon and the Visayas against big waves due to the strong northeasterly winds.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Paeng was spotted at 1,372 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes as of 10 a.m. yesterday, packing winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 220 kph.

It was forecast to move north-northeast toward southern Japan at 19 kph.

PAGASA said rough to very rough seas are expected over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon and over the eastern seaboard of the Visayas in the next 24 hours.

Central Visayas and Mindanao will continue to have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy, with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
