30 hurt as bus rams mango tree in La Union

MANILA, Philippines - At least 30 people were hurt after a wayward passenger bus crashed into a mango tree near a school in La Union, Thursday morning. 
 
Initial reports said that an MVE busline (AYV 463) bound for Baguio City from Abra, was speeding along the highway when it suddenly swerved to the left side of the road and slammed onto a mango tree in Barangay Paringao,Bauang town at around 9 a.m.
 
The strong impact brought down the mango tree, crushing the front of the bus, reports said. 
 
The driver, whom passengers claimed fell asleep while driving, was seriously injured and brought to a hospital.
 
Most of the injured victims were brought to the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center for treatment. 
 
Around 40 people, including the driver and conducter, were inside the bus during the accident.
