Jun Elias - The Philippine Star

CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – More than 50,000 marijuana plants and seedlings with an estimated value of P6 million were destroyed by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and members of the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO-1) during a raid in Sugpon town, Ilocos Sur over the weekend.

Chief Superintendent Roman Felix, regional police director, said the operation resulted in the discovery of 24,770 marijuana plants and 34,100 seedlings in Barangay Licungan.

“Based on the standard value set by the Dangerous Drug Board, the marijuana plants and seedlings, including the 30.5 kilos of dried marijuana leaves, had an estimated value of P6.6 million,” Felix said.

The plants and dried leaves were burned at the site after samples and pieces of evidence were taken for documentation at the PDEA office in San Fernando City.
