2 rebels slain in Davao clash
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Two suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas were killed in an encounter with government security forces in Kapalong town, Davao del Norte on Sunday.
Cpt. Alberto Caber, spokesman for the Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command, said the rebels shot at soldiers of the Army’s 60th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Gupitan, triggering a firefight that lasted for an hour.
Caber said the soldiers, along with some police officers, were responding to a report that a group of armed men were extorting money and goods from villagers.
