Ex-Davao Sur exec tagged in journalist’s slay surrenders
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Former Davao del Sur governor Douglas Cagas surrendered to the police yesterday after a warrant for his arrest was issued for his alleged involvement in the killing of a journalist in 2010.
A court recently issued the warrant against Cagas, Matanao town Mayor Vicente Fernandez, Ali Ordaneza and Bado Sanchez for the murder of Nestor Bedolido of Kastigador in July 2010.
Davao del Sur provincial police chief Senior Superintendent Michael Dubria said Cagas went to his office in Barangay Tres de Mayo, Digos City at around 8 a.m., bringing with him a copy of the warrant.
Dubria said Cagas was accompanied by his wife, Rep. Didi Cagas, members of his staff and his family, and supporters.
He said they took Cagas’ fingerprints and mug shots, and had him undergo a medical checkup.
Cagas was reportedly brought to the court that issued the warrant against him and was committed to a jail facility in Digos City.
