Ex-Sarangani town vice mayor gunned down

MANILA, Philippines - A former vice mayor in Sarangani Province was shot to death Tuesday morning by a lone gunman while on his way to his farm. 

The victim, Eulogio Benitez, 82, former vice mayor of Maasim town and a resident of Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Colon, instantly died from several gunshot wounds.

Benitez was on his way to his farm on board a tricycle around 7 a.m. when his live-in partner heard a volley of gunfire.

When she checked where the shots were coming from, she saw the victim's bloodied body on the ground.

Police are still investigating the incident.
