Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Earthquakes rocked parts of Southern Luzon yesterday, but no damage or injuries were reported, state seismologists said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said quakes of magnitudes 2.9 and 3.0 occurred at 12:22 p.m. and 12:47 p.m., respectively.

The epicenter of the magnitude-2.9 tremor was located 13 kilometers northwest of Tingloy, Batangas. It was felt at Intensity 2 in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro.

The second quake was located eight kilometers northwest of Abra de Ilog in Occidental Mindoro. It was felt at Intensity 3 in Puerto Galera.

Phivolcs said the tremors were caused by the movement of the Lubang Fault and were not expected to generate aftershocks.
