Bigtime swindler busted in Cavite

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star
MANILA, Philippines -  Police apprehended a suspected big time swindler in a sting operation in Cavite, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said Monday.

CIDG chief Director Benjamin Magalong said Aida Artigas, 52, of Vito Cruz, Makati City, was captured by the Cavite CIDG detectives inside a fast food restaurant located at Barangay, Talaba, Bacoor City, Cavite last weekend.

Police tagged Artigas, who was nabbed while in the act of receiving marked money from one of her victims, as "condo estafa queen."

Records showed that Artigas duped each of the four victims into buying a 77-square-meter condo unit with an address at No. 16 - B, Tower A, Kingswood Condominium, No. 185 Vito Cruz Extension, Makati Avenue, Makati City making it a double sale.

The prices of the unit were sold between P2 million and P3.1 million, police said.

The suspect's arrest stemmed from the complaints of her victims identified as Samuel Noveno and Orpha NoVeno who gave around P800,000 as down payment for the unit.

Other victims like Aniceto Igrubay was allegedly tricked to pay P600,000 while Michael Garcia was enticed to give P1 million.

Artigas is now detained at Cavite CIDG lock-up cell while a criminal case for large scale estafa is set to be filed against her before the Bacoor City Prosecutor’s Office.
