Quarrying in Kalinga river banned

KALINGA, Philippines – Quarrying along the Chico River in Tabuk City here has been prohibited to protect its white water river rafting attraction.

White water rafting in Tabu starts from its jump-off point in Barangay Tomiagan to the village of Dalimuno, a growing tourism area.

Tabuk Mayor Ferdinand Tubban said they want to protect the natural current route of the river, which is ideal for the water sport. Quarrying can divert the water route and wash down the banks of the river.

The city government also seeks to preserve flora along the Chico River as part of its efforts to reduce the effects of climate change.

The city government has designated a regulated quarry site in Barangay Bantay near Dalimuno to protect tourism and the construction sector of the city.

Tubban urged residents and village officials to help monitor any illegal quarrying along the banks of Chico River.
