Yolanda-hit areas in Aklan to get new classrooms

Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom, in partnership with the Habitat for Humanity and Ayala Foundation, will build 40 new classrooms in areas hit by Typhoon Yolanda in Aklan.

Yoly Crisanto, senior vice president of Globe Corporate Communications, said the company would construct “Noah’s Ark”– type classrooms in the towns of Libacao, Madalag, Banga, Batan, Altavas, Balete and New Washington.

She said the new classrooms, which are equipped with a toilet, bathroom and kitchen, could also serve as evacuation centers during calamities.

Crisanto said Globe also launched a fund-raising campaign to build a new school in Aklan.

She said they are collecting old cellular phones and other gadgets, which will be turned over to TES-AMM, a leading electronics waste recycler company based in Singapore.

Donation bins for old cell phones and tablets, mobile phone batteries, and chargers are available in participating Globe stores nationwide.
