Jail chief axed for escape of 2 inmates

Raymund Catindig - The Philippine Star

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A city jail warden and four of his men were removed from their posts after two inmates escaped from a detention cell in Santiago City, Isabela early this week.

Chief Inspector William Tallungan and his men were ordered relieved by Bureau of Jail and Management and Penology regional director Amelia Rayandayan for the escape of Arnold Cerezo and Luisito Pascual.

The fugitives reportedly took the service firearm of one of the jail guards, said city police director Superintendent Alexander Santos.

Rayandayan said they were investigating reports that a jail officer designated Pascual as a trustee even if the latter had figured in a jailbreak in Nueva Ecija.

Pascual is facing robbery cases while Cerezo was charged with murder and frustrated murder.
