Batanes eyes underground power lines

Charlie Lagasca - The Philippine Star

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya – Batanes’ power cooperative will soon transmit electricity through underground cables instead of overhead lines.

Karen Nico of the institutional services department of the Batanes Electric Cooperative said the move is aimed at improving electrification in the province aside from protecting power lines from strong winds and other weather disturbances.

She said underground cables have longer life spans as these are less exposed to the elements.

She said the cooperative has allocated P141.6 million for the project.
