Whirlwind damages 6 homes, mosque in Zambo City

Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY - A mosque and six houses were destroyed when a whirlwind struck an island village last Monday.

In a belated report on Wednesday, police said 13 pumpboats were also destroyed by the whirlwind that struck Barangay Pangapuyan at around 1 p.m. last Monday.

City police chief Senior Superintendent Angelito Casimiro said that according to the Sacol Island community police action center (COMPAC) no one was reported injured.

The city government said it has directed the social welfare office to extend relief assistance to the affected families.

The local weather bureau said the sudden gust of wind was brought by the southwest monsoon, spawned by the tailend of tropical storm Mario.
