Mario death toll rises to 16, cost of damage close to P1B

MANILA, Philippines - The death toll from Tropical Storm Mario jumped to 16, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported.
 
In its update Tuesday night, the NDRRMC also recorded 16 people injured during the height of the storm in regions 1, 4-A, 4-B, National Capital Region and Cordillera Administrative Region.
 
Four persons remained missing, the NDRMMC added.
 
The NDRRMC reported that the total affected families also ballooned to more than 260,000 families or 1.181 persons in 1,224 barangays in 27 provinces of regions 1,2,3,4-A, 4-B, 5, 7, CAR and NCR.
 
Of the total affected, more than 14,000 families or some 61,000 persons stayed in 260 evacuation centers, the NDRRMC said.
 
Meanwhile, the state emergency response body placed the damage of Mario to agriculture and infrastructure at more than P900 million.
 
The cost of assistance by the national and local government units was estimated at P23 million.
