Ranking rebel official nabbed in Iloilo
MANILA, Philippines — Police and military nabbed a suspected ranking official of the rebel communist movement in Iloilo, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said on Tuesday.
CIDG chief Director Benjamin Magalong said authorities nabbed Norberto Castor, said to be the Deputy Secretary of Central Front of Komiteng Rehiyonal Panay, in Barangay Calaboa, Leganes, Iloilo for multiple murder and multiple frustrated murder cases.
Magalong added that Castor eluded capture for eight years, hiding in different places around Iloilo City.
The arrest was covered by a warrant, which also includes Francisco Balois, another communist rebel. It was issued on March 10, 2006 by Judge Guilljie Delfin Lim of 6th Judicial Regional Trial Court, Iloilo City.
The police and military forces are continuously hunting down Balois who is allegedly hiding in Iloilo.
Magalong also said Castor was in the wanted list of the Department of National Defense-Department of Interior and Local Government with a bounty of P2.3 million
He said Castor, accompanied by his 20-year-old daughter, was brought to Iloilo detention facility.
