Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Police rescued a university teacher seized in Buug town, Zamboanga Sibugay yesterday, an official said.

Chief Superintendent Edgar Basbas, director of Police Regional Office 9, said two men were arrested at a checkpoint set up in the nearby town of Tigbao.

Hanefa Sarifa, 21, a teacher at Mindanao State University, was snatched in a cloth shop in Barangay Poblacion at around noon.

The suspects forced the victim into a Toyota Innova, which had a commemorative plate marked NBI 75, that sped toward the direction of Pagadian City.

Basbas said an alarm was flashed to all police units, including those in the nearby provinces to rescue the victim.

“The police unit in Tigbao town intercepted the vehicle of the suspects and rescued the victim after an hour,” he told journalists.
