5.1-magnitude quake hits Tawi-Tawi; aftershocks expected
MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude-5.1 earthquake jolted Tawi-Tawi on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor was recorded at 8:26 a.m. with an epicenter traced 51 kilometers southeast of South Ubian in Tawi-Tawi.
Bongao town in Tawi-Tawi felt the quake at Intensity 3.
Phivolcs described an Intensity 3 earthquake as weak, though it is felt by many people indoors, especially those in upper floors of buildings.
The tremor was also felt at Intensity 1 in Zamboanga City.
The earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, had a shallow of depth 72 km.
Aftershocks are expected at the affected areas, but no casualty nor damage has been reported so far.
