Pakistani killed in Basilan robbery

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - A Pakistani national engaged in lending was killed Wednesday while his Filipino driver was seriously wounded in a robbery hold-up incident near the border of Lamitan City, Basilan, police said.

The police identified the victim as Rehman Kan, said to be a Pakistani, who was temporarily residing in Lamitan. His driver who was critically wounded was identified as Albert Palconit.

Police investigation disclosed that the victims were aboard their motorcycle collect money when they were waylaid by unidentified gunmen along the highway in the vicinity of Barangay Sabong and Parangbasak in the outskirts of Lamitan City past 1. p.m.

The police, citing witnesses’ accounts, said that after robbing the victims, the suspects shot them with caliber a .45 pistol killing Kan on the spot and critically wounding Palconit.

The suspects escaped with their undetermined amount of loot toward an unknown direction onboard their getaway motorcycle. - Roel Pareño
