PGH doctors to testify on Enrile's health
MANILA, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan on Tuesday summoned a team of medical doctors from the Philippine General Hospital to appear on Thursday before the anti-graft court to testify on tests done on Senator Juan Ponce Enrile.
Lawyer Dennis Pulma, clerk of court of the anti-graft court's 3rd Division, said the team's director, Dr. Jose Gonzales, will be asked about the former Senate President's health.
Enrile was allowed to be detained at the Philippine National Police General Hospital inside the Camp Crame headquarters after he surrendered to authorities last July for plunder charges linked to the "pork barrel" scam.
Aside from Gonzales, Pulma said the Court also summoned the police hospital's director.
"Dr. Gonzales will testify particularly dun sa medical report and recommendation which they submitted yesterday in connection with Enrile' s motion for detention at the PNP General Hospital," Pulma told reporters.
The PGH medical team are expected to appear before the court on Thursday around 1:30 p.m.
At present, Enrile, who is facing plunder and graft charges in connection with the P10 billion pork barrel scam, has been temporarily under hospital arrest due to his medical condition and advanced age.
