Abus snatch midwife in Sulu

Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Gunmen, suspected to be members of the Abu Sayyaf, snatched a midwife from a health clinic in a village of Luuk town, Sulu, police said yesterday.

The Sulu police reported that the gunmen barged into the Luuk Municipal Health Center and took Lailani Bernabe at around 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Authorities are coordinating with the family of the victim to determine the motive for the kidnapping.

The kidnapping occurred only a few hours after Abu Sayyaf bandits released Ronald Pelegrin, chief mechanic of the Sulu provincial government after ransom was reportedly paid.
