P’sinan town accountant suspended anew

Eva Visperas - The Philippine Star

BINMALEY, Pangasinan, Philippines – This town’s municipal accountant has been suspended for another 60 days for alleged neglect of duty.

Mayor Simplicio Rosario placed Gertrudes Reyes under 60-day preventive suspension in connection with the municipality’s bloated gasoline expenses.

The mayor questioned the municipal government’s gasoline consumption amounting to over P3 million from July 2012 to June 2013.

He said the amount is higher than the P600,000 worth of gasoline that the local government consumed for the same period from July 2013 to June of this year.

Rosario said the suspension order would prevent Reyes from influencing witnesses or tampering with evidence as the municipal government investigates the case.

Reyes is facing administrative charges for neglect of duty, misconduct, dishonesty and conduct prejudicial to the interest of the service.

“The bloated gas consumption for July 2012 to June 2013 would not have been possibly incurred, considering the limited number of government vehicles,” Rosario said.
