Dumb Way to Die 'glitch' hits MRT exec's Twitter

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Twitter account of the Metro Rail Transit spokesman Hernando Cabrera was apparently hacked with a supposed glitch pulling tweets from the wildly popular mobile app Dumb Ways to Die.

Separate tweets showing the animated deaths of two of the game's characters were posted Monday on Cabrera's official account @attycabs.

The app arose in 2012 as a public service campaign on train safety by Melbourne-based franchise operator Metro Trains.

When a Twitter user inquired about the peculiar Dumb Ways to Die posts, Cabrera denied knowing what the game is about.

Another user, apparently a fan of the app, told him he could also play a minigame featuring an airplane. Cabrera, a lawyer, also answered, "Ano 'yun?"

"Something wrong with my account, parang naglaro ng game on its own," Cabrera said.

He also dismissed another user's amusing observation on Cabrera's account following "communication problems" of the MRT-3 operations along EDSA.

On Tuesday afternoon, two consecutive game-related tweets appeared again. Cabrera called it a glitch.

The Twitter incidents followed three weeks after an MRT-3 train overshot the Taft Avenue station in Pasay City in a mishap that injured 30 passengers and bystanders. - Camille Diola
