No leak ordered for final draft of Bangsamoro Law

Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines  – President Aquino has reportedly issued an order against leaking the final draft of the Bangsamoro Basic Law until it is submitted to Congress, a lawmaker from Mindanao said yesterday.

Rep. Lilia Nuño of this city’s second district said she wanted to have a copy of the draft to ensure that its provisions followed the Constitution.

“But there is a strict order from the President not to leak the final draft law until it is submitted to Congress,” Nuño said.

The draft law was submitted to Aquino last Thursday by members of the government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) peace panels.

The President is expected to submit the draft to Congress early next month.

Nuño said it is important to educate the people on the provisions agreed upon by the government and the MILF peace panels.

The draft law paves the way for the creation of a new Bangsamoro entity replacing the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
