MANILA, Philippines - Airport authorities aired concern over the recent abundance of birds at the Mactan Cebu International Airport.

Airport General Manager Nigel Villarete said in an interview with Bombo Radyo on Thursday that the birds may interfere with planes at take-off and landing and cause accidents.

The birds are said to be migratory in nature and are passing through from other countries at this time of the year.

Villerete said that the airport has encountered similar situations before, but there has recently been a notable increase in the quantity of birds.

To address the situation, Villarete vowed to assemble a wildlife committee to prevent the presence of birds in the arport's runway. -  Camille Diola
