3 dead in La Union, Quezon mishaps

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A woman died while her husband and daughter were injured when their motorcycle slammed into a tricycle in Bauang, La Union, while a village watchman and a bystander also died when a liquefied petroleum gas tanker hit them in Sariaya town Tuesday night.

Gloria Gaerlan died at the scene after her husband Bongbong reportedly tried to overtake another vehicle in Barangay Quinavite.

Bongbong and their daughter Daisy were taken to the hospital for treatment, case investigator Senior Police Officer 1 Marlon Panitan.

Meanwhile, in Quezon, village watchman Julio Hernandez, 66, and Antonio Alibia were run over by an LPG tanker driven by Joseph Cerillo at around 7:30 p.m. in Barangay Sampaloc, Sariaya town.

Superintendent Eduard Mallo, officer-in-charge of the local police, said Cerillo tried to escape but surrendered later to authorities in Pagbilao town.– Raymund Catindig, Michelle Zoleta
