LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines  – Followers of the late interior and local government secretary Jesse Robredo marked his second death anniversary yesterday.

In Naga City, hometown of Robredo, residents enjoyed a non-working holiday.

Mayor John Bongat and Rep. Leni Robredo led the occasion with a bicycle race for peace as well as a “tsinelas” or flip-flops walk from the KMR Coliseum to the Eternal Gardens.

When Robredo died in 2012, Malacañang officials cited his “tsinelas brand of leadership.” He would turn up at emergency Cabinet meetings on disasters or floods wearing rubber slippers.

Other actitivies included a mass in the memorial park, a wreath-laying ceremony and  groundbreaking for the Robredo Museum at the city’s civic center.
