38 churches to be restored for Pope visit

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Repair works for 38 churches and chapels damaged by Super Typhoon Yolanda will be completed by November or two months ahead of Pope Francis scheduled visit next year, an official of the Caritas Manila said yesterday.

Fr. Emerson Luego, officer in-charge for Caritas Visayas and Mindanao operation, said they have finished repairing 30 churches and they are still working on the remaining eight.

Luego said the eight churches are located in Palo and Calbayog in Leyte and in Borongan in Samar.

He said as soon as the churches are restored, they will start working on 12 additional assignments given to them by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.

Some of the funds for the construction work came from the proceeds of a benefit concert for Yolanda victims.
