P63 M earmarked for Bataan flood control
BALANGA CITY, Philippines – The municipal government of Dinalupihan in Bataan has allotted P63 million for the construction of dikes, dredging of canals and rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure to protect agricultural crops and residential areas from flood.
Rolando Rojas, administrative consultant of Dinalupihan Mayor Gila Garcia, said the dredging project and improvement of waterways leading to the Almacen River would divert floodwaters away from the farmlands in the villages such as Layac and Sta. Isabel.
During rainy days, the Layac junction is submerged under floods, preventing commuters from going to Zambales and Olongapo City, and vice versa.
Rojas said the construction of dikes in the villages of Luacan, Pagalanggang, Sta. Isabel and Pita would prevent rainwater coming from the mountains of Pampanga and Zambales from flowing toward Dinalupihan.
High tide and silt along Orani Channel in Manila Bay were blamed for flooding in Dinalupihan and Hermosa.
